Landscapes
Rejuvenation Artisans creates unique landscapes in Portland, Oregon using environmentally sustainable methods in all of our designs and practices.
Our focus is delight in the natural world and the invention of extraordinary adventure, so entering the garden becomes the crossing of a threshold into a fantastic new world and windows become portals to mythic lands.
Rejuvenation Artisans is committed to using environmentally sustainable methodology in every garden we design, install, and maintain. Our methods are dictated by the most recent findings of top professionals in our field, and implemented by our own certified horticulturist and designer.
Our mission is to spread exquisite beauty, appreciation of the natural world, and strange surprises, by creating and maintaining gardens for people to enjoy. In so doing, we wish to assist plants in living healthy, happy lives, and clients in learning to better use and understand their gardens.
Our designs display an intense love of diversity; extraordinary plants are celebrated together with a tinge of mystery and delight. Reflections of the natural world are lovingly expressed in every one of our spectacular and ecologically intelligent designs.
We encourage an organic approach so that all fruits, herbs, edible flowers, and foliage can be consumed. Likewise, pets, wildlife, and children are kept safe. Through the use of thick mulches, organic compost & fertilizers, early disease & pest control, and proper & timely pruning we can eliminate dependence on chemical fertilizers and sprays.
There are a great many wonderful plants that can thrive in our area with less water! As part of our commitment to sustainability, our designs use water-wise plantings. We also encourage removal of lawns in favor of alternatives such as low groundcovers that require less water and no mowing. We do not mow or install lawns, but if you like we will be happy to create a greenspace that is walkable, beautiful, and easy to maintain.
Part of conserving water is allowing natural rainwater to reach the ground directly, where it can benefit your plants and trees year-round. For this reason, we do not use impervious pavement such as concrete in our pathway and hardscape designs; instead we employ natural flagstone, permeable pavers, and crushed rock.
We also love to make stormwater an asset rather than a headache! See our Rain Garden section for more information.
The Landscape Services Eco-Logical Business Program is a certification that recognizes landscape design, installation and maintenance service contractors that reach the highest standards in environmental protection.
This program is sponsored by the Pollution Prevention Outreach Team (P20), a group of environmental impact experts from seven agencies in the Portland Metro area. The P20 Team is a cooperative group of local area jurisdictional staff from: City of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Metro, Clackamas County, City of Gresham, Clean Water Services and Washington County. The team includes planners and management experts in air pollution, hazardous materials, solid waste, surface water and wastewater disciplines. The Bureau of Environmental Services is the lead partner for the EcoBiz Landscaper program in Portland.
The Columbia Land Trust, Bird Alliance of Oregon, Friends of Tryon Creek, City of Portland Environmental Services and others have joined forces to create a Backyard Habitat Certification Program.
This collaborative effort was designed to provide technical assistance to private property owners to restore native wildlife habitat in their backyards. The program focuses on the removal of aggressive weeds, naturescaping with native plants, stormwater management and wildlife stewardship.
This is a program run by Environmental Services of the City of Portland dedicated to a Sustainable Approach to Stormwater Management.
When it rains, stormwater runoff that isn't properly managed can flow over impervious surfaces picking up pollutants along the way and washing them into rivers and streams.
Stormwater runoff can also cause flooding and erosion, destroy habitat and contribute to combined sewer overflows (CSOs). Stormwater management systems that mimic nature by integrating stormwater into building and site development can reduce the damaging effects of urbanization on rivers and streams. Disconnecting the flow from storm sewers and directing runoff to natural systems like landscaped planters, bioswales and rain gardens reduces and filters stormwater runoff.
Principal Designer, Owner
Grace is the company's principle landscape designer. She is a college certified horticulturist & designer, having worked professionally with plants since 1995. Grace is also a licensed landscape contractor, and has been certified by Portland BES in Sustainable Stormwater Management.
Her initial expertise was in container gardening for exotic animal enclosures and care of carnivorous plants. She was later moved by curiosity into the amazing world of outdoor gardens, where her intriguing designs could broaden with more space.
Grace learned an incredible amount from her wonderful professors at Merritt College's Landscape Horticulture Department, and perhaps even more from plantsmen Roger Raiche and Dave McCrory of Planet Horticulture. She also maintained the award-winning Entry Garden at the San Francisco Botanical Garden from 2002-2004.
Grace has provided design services, aesthetic pruning for irreplaceable specimen trees, horticultural consultation and care for public botanical gardens, private estates, natural area restoration sites, as well as urban landscapes of all kinds.
Grace has always been most inspired by nature. Her Maricopa Native American culture colored her early summers on the reservation in the Arizona desert (she is an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community), and remains a counterpoint to her life as an urban Indian. When she is not in the garden, Grace loves to write stories, paint pictures, and dance. She plans to save the world by inspiring humans with art & nature.

AfterRejuvenation Artisans creates stormwater management solutions that are sustainable, economical, and beautiful. Rain gardens, downspout disconnects, rain barrels, & swale systems are some of the methods we use.
When it rains here in the Pacific Northwest, impressive amounts of water fall onto our land, reminding us that we are indeed living in a temperate rainforest region. In a natural environment, most of this rain water percolates into the soil, and is absorbed into the groundwater to be later joined into our rivers and streams, or is taken up by thirsty plant roots.
In our modern urban environment, rain water more often finds roofs, roads, driveways, and other impermeable surfaces before it has a chance to return to the earth. This surface water runoff then moves quickly along the path of least resistance.
If not managed carefully, stormwater in our landscapes can become problematic, creating boggy areas in our gardens, pooling in our parking areas, seeping into our basements, and even damaging building foundations.
Our stormwater management systems mimic nature by allowing water to be effectively absorbed into the soil on your property, making it available to the plants in your landscape over a longer period. This helps landscapes to function more sustainably, needing less additional summer water. Our designs intelligently guide water away from building foundations and back into the earth, perhaps even storing some in a rain barrel along the way.
Plants are almost always an integral and necessary element in designing effective solutions for managing stormwater. Through expert plant selection and placement, plant roots can help prevent runoff by soaking up excess water, and add an invaluable element of beauty that serves a very functional purpose.
Disconnecting the flow from storm sewers and directing runoff to systems like landscaped planters and rain gardens reduces and filters stormwater runoff. Integrating stormwater management into building and site development can reduce the damaging effects of urbanization on rivers and streams.
Rejuvenation Artisans is a listed member of Environmental Services of the City of Portland's Stormwater Professional Referral List, and is certified by Portland BES Sustainable Stormwater Management Training.
What does this mean? This is a program run by Environmental Services of the City of Portland dedicated to a Sustainable Approach to Stormwater Management.
What is the larger environmental concern in our area? Stormwater runoff in cities can pick up pollutants along the way as it flows over impervious surfaces, washing them into rivers and streams. Runoff can also cause flooding and erosion, destroy habitat and contribute to combined sewer overflows.
Portland has received international attention for its projects and designs in sustainable stormwater management, and Rejuvenation Artisans is proud to be part of that driving force in our efforts toward intelligent, forward-thinking landscape design.
